Rockridge residents eligible for Pilot earthquake retrofit program

If you live in the Bay Area, one of the considerations we all share is earthquakes. Since we never know when the next quake will happen, it is always recommended that we prepare ourselves, our families, our workplaces and ultimately our homes for such an event. Keep reading to learn more about the possibility of receiving incentives to retrofit your home.

Enroll in the pilot retrofit program by October 30th

Luckily, there are many organizations in our community to support your preparedness. One such organization, called the California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP), recently launched a pilot program earlier this month called Earthquake Brace + Bolt: Funds To Strengthen Your Foundation.

The CRMP is a collaboration of the California Earthquake Authority and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to assist California homeowners retrofit their homes.

If you are a homeowner and live in the Rockridge area (94609 and 94618 zip codes), then you might be eligible to participate in the pilot program and receive incentives of up to $3,000 to perform a seismic retrofit to your home. The CRMP are selecting 10 qualified homeowners to participate in the pilot program this month.

Here is an excerpt from a recent CRMP press release:

“This program is about keeping Californians safe and finding ways to motivate homeowners to protect their most valuable asset,” said Councilmember Dan Kalb. “District 1 is proud to be part of this Pilot, and I look forward to reaching out and sharing information with Oakland residents to ensure they are prepared for the next earthquake.”

A typical seismic retrofit can cost between $2,000 and $10,000. Earthquake Brace + Bolt will pre-qualify homeowners whose houses meet certain criteria. Program participants will be selected from a random drawing. Selected Homeowner Participants will then have the opportunity to receive a $3,000 incentive payment upon meeting all Pilot Program requirements.

Please visit the Earthquake Brace + Bolt website by October 30th and pre-qualify yourself by completing a survey that will enroll you in their lottery. Whether you plan on using a contractor, or even doing the work yourself, this is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your home!
