Green Key Real Estate is the first and only green real estate company in San Francisco. Our focus is on incorporating environmentally responsible and socially just principles and practices into all aspects of our business. We run an office waste minimization program, power our offices with wind energy, respect tenants and home owners’ rights and responsibilities, and donate a portion of our profits to promote green building practices.
Green Key was founded to empower, enrich and educate our clients.
Empower: Green-minded buyers to buy property in San Francisco
Enrich: Green-minded sellers by getting the most for their property and selling to like minded buyers.
Real estate brokers and agents have the ability to influence the spending of huge sums of money every year in real estate transactions. Not only in the purchase of the property, but in remodeling decisions, financing decisions, furnishing and decorating decisions, etc.
Green Key Real Estate wants to ensure that environmentally responsible and safe decisions are made with these purchases. By working with green minded clients and connecting them with green service providers and products, we hope to help make San Francisco the most sustainable city on the planet one sale at a time.

Callista Shepherd - Realtor®
Do you want to find a home or office that you can “green” remodel for resource efficiency with economic and health benefits if it is not so already? Do you want someone who understands well and can market the “green” features or "greenability" of your property and communicate that advantageously to buyers?
Since early childhood growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Callista has been getting an education in the planning, design and build industries – as many a Sunday were spent with her Architect-father reviewing progress at his many job-sites. “Dad walked thru the sites whistling to accompany his thoughts - making mental notes for the Job Captain, camera in-hand noting progress and documentation for later design meetings.” Several generations up both sides of the family tree have made their living in the Building Industry across the U.S. That early imprinting “took”. Currently, four of the nine siblings, and three in-laws all work successfully in the design/build, property management, residential and commercial real estate industry across the country… and twice as many have investment properties. “The breadth of experience in our family over several generations is like being part of an extensive consulting firm – it’s a definite advantage.” Like father – like daughter; Callista still travels with camera in-hand keeping current with local properties and the market also because she truly enjoys the visual art of “built spaces”.
Callista has good instincts for gaining valuable and relevant, current market information to inform the process of purchasing or selling a property, this helps clients to make smart decisions; she's straight-talking, fair-minded and roundly considerate in her communication-style, though no push-over when negotiating a successful win-win close for her clients. Callista represents her clients with zealous delight, considering the clients interests as her very own.
An avid gardener and designer, Callista has strong nesting instincts for the beauty, health and comfort of “home” grounded by favoring our green, and blue, natural world. Of special interest to Callista is how a property blends the built-scape with their on-site greening practices. In property evaluations she's often envisioning green-scaping and daylighting opportunities. She states that greenscapes are the “lungs” of a property which contribute directly to the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the occupants. Enhanced well-being equates to valuable real estate.
Reflecting seamless integrity and Eco-Healthy themes in her personal and professional life, Callista has a broad professional background in Outdoor Plant Nursery sales; International Sales and Marketing of nutritional products for the Health Food Industry; Art-assistant, production, design, photography and home-staging; Garden design; and a successful hands-on healing practice as a Certified Massage Therapist and Reiki Master Teacher.
Callista is a nature-lover at heart; a natural healer, with personal and spiritual-growth counseling skills by calling; and a professional, passionate advocate who champions sustainable models of low-impact-design and practices Green Real Estate professionally as an expression of those core-values.
Based in San Francisco, you can reach Callista on her cell# 415-205-5584 Or by email:
Diane Mateus - Realtor®
Diane Mateus was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Moving to the east bay city of Dublin with her family at the age of 3, Diane vividly recalls growing up in this newly incorporated city back in the early 1980’s. “I can remember seeing cows roaming the beautiful rolling green hills and the miles of undeveloped land that lay out in the distance.” However, as years passed, the cows suddenly disappeared and one could no longer see the beautiful rolling green hills. The land had gradually been developed, and at an early age, Diane realized the importance of sustainable development and preserving the environment’s precious natural resources.
Diane earned a BA in International Relations with an Emphasis in Global Resources and the Environment from the University of California at Davis in 1998. She minored in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning and served as an Environmental Law Intern with the California Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Department of Toxic Substances Control in Sacramento.
Diane moved back to the Bay Area in the fall of 2000 and purchased her very first home in the City of Walnut Creek shortly thereafter at the age of 24. Diane quickly realized the importance of investing in real estate and the value of home ownership and successfully obtained her California Real Estate License in 2002.
Now that Diane is an associate of the Green Key Real Estate team, she brings her extensive experience from the fast-paced and ever changing wireless telecommunications industry where she worked for over 8 years, the last 6 of those years specializing in real estate property management and contract administration.
Diane is an active member of the Bay East Association of Realtors, the California Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. Diane also holds a Notary Public Commission in the State of California and is a current member of the National Notary Association.
Diane is presently working on becoming a certified Eco-Broker and Green Building Professional and is looking forward to representing Green Key Real Estate and serving you with all your real estate needs.

What people are saying...
“Chris at Green Key Real Estate was a pleasure to work with. He patiently walked me through the process of finding and buying my first home, and connected me with some of the best green remodeling people in the bay area. It was a breath of fresh air to work with a green minded real estate agent, and I’d highly recommend working with Green Key Real Estate.”
Heather Stephenson, San Francisco
“We were a little nervous embarking on buying our first home in San Francisco. Chris Bartle was the perfect solution in helping us through the process. Chris helped us through the property search, contract negotiations and closing processes. Chris' knowledge of the San Francisco market helped us make an offer that was accepted in a multiple bid situation, and his connections helped us find the right contractor to inspect the home quickly. We are thrilled that Chris has launched his own brokerage. He is a professional and valuable advisor”
Brian and Stacy Goleno, San Francisco
“Chris has been great to work with! He is very knowledgeable about the real estate market here in San Francisco. He is an excellent communicator and has been invaluable in our search for a new home. We plan to have him sell our current home too when the time comes. I would definitely recommend him!”
Kathy & Bart Shepherd, San Francisco
"It was such a relief to have Chris on our side throughout a particularly tough negotiation. He helped us get a great price for the land we bought in Sonoma county, and this transaction was one of the smoothest real estate closings we have ever experienced. He also connected us with a knowledgeable green builder up here and a fantastic lender. We will certainly work with Chris and Green Key on future real estate projects and or developments. A breath of fresh air in the mayhem of real estate."
Barry Everett & Shannon Prochaska, Sebastopol
“I couldn’t have asked for more from Chris. He is an informative real estate agent who has a great amount of patience. As a first time buyer, I knew very little about getting a place of my own. It was such a relief to have Chris’s expertise. His positive energy generosity with his time and understanding helped us find the best property that we possibly could.”
