Psst...want the key to a hidden stash of veggies? No need: The new
Slow Foods Victory Garden will be as public as it gets - even if you'll
still have to grow your own. Chez Panisse drool-inducer Alice Waters
will join Mayor Gavin Newsom and others tomorrow to plant upwards of 40
organic crops - including corn, dill, lettuce, even sunflowers - right
in front of City Hall. And in the spirit of not-so-secretiveness,
starting Sunday, you can get a guide to walk you through the what's
what, and more importantly, the how-to. The sustainably farmed harvest
will be sent to a local food bank so that folks can get chem-free
veggies. (It'll have security, so late-night tomatillo runs are out.)
Feel free to spread that around.
